The US hopes that Iran uses properly the airliners that is now going to acquire under the deal with Airbus and Boeing, said Secretary of State's Policy Planning Staff Sahar Nowrouzzadeh.

“According to the JCPOA and as one of the conditions of the sales, the airplanes should be specifically used as passenger planes,” she told Trend.

The US Treasury last week authorized the two companies to carry out their deals with Iran that had been signed a few months ago.

Iran could not buy airplanes, airplane parts, or even technical maintenance services for its airplanes under sanctions that were lifted in January.

Despite the removal of the sanctions, the Office of Foreign Assets Control had been shunning away from authorizing the deals. According to US laws, any product from around the world that uses a minimum of 10 percent US-made parts should get permission from the Treasury before it can be sold to a third country.

Nowrouzzadeh went on to hail the recent authorization as “a landmark”. “It may take a while for the deals to be carried out. We hope that Iran makes proper use of the airplanes to improve people’s lives,” she said.
