Iran is after obtaining materials that would help the country to develop stealth missiles, a senior military official said.

Brigadier General Hossein Salami, the second-in-command of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, has said that the country is in need of materials making it possible to develop missiles capable of hiding from the enemy’s radars, electromagnetic or laser systems, Mehr news agency reported.

He made the remarks at the inaugural ceremony of the Center for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology at Imam Hossein University in Tehran.

Saying that materials play a significant role in developing weapons and defense technologies, he added that the Center for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology has been organized to carry out research works regarding the characteristics of materials employed in creating defense technologies.

Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems over the past several years.

The Islamic Republic maintains that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
