Incumbent President Hassan Rouhani will run for next presidential election in Iran, expected to be held in May 2017.
Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli has said that Hassan Rouhani will run for presidential election and the incumbent president has instructed the government to organize a “legal and healthy” election, Fars news agency reported.
President Rouhani has urged the government to remain impartial regarding the upcoming election, Rahmani-Fazli added.
According to Iranian constitution, the president is elected for a four-year term by the direct vote of the people and his re-election for a consecutive term is permissible only once.
President Rouhani assumed office in August 2013 promising to sort out the nuclear problem in order to improve living standards in the Islamic Republic.
