Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei expects the army of Iran to improve its capabilities in gathering intelligence about the enemy’s plans, a senior military official said.

Brigadier General Mohammad Shirazi, the head of military affairs at the supreme leader’s office has said that Ayatollah Khamenei in his recent decree, appointing the new commander of the Iranian army, has urged for preparedness in the army’s intelligence unit, Tasnim news agency reported.

The army has already taken proper steps on gathering intelligence even intelligence on situation in the foreign countries, he said.

The supreme leader expects the army to gather information about the enemy’s plans and prepare its units to take required measures against them, he added.

He further praised the army for forming quick reaction units and called for increasing their number.

Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday replaced two senior Army commanders.

The Supreme Leader appointed Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan to the post of Deputy General Commander of Army and Brigadier General Kiumars Heydari as Commander of the Army's Ground Forces.
