Iran has barred the US wrestlers from entering the country for participation in the Freestyle World Cup competition, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.
A special committee that had been assigned to deal with the matter, has voted to bar the athletes from entering Iran, the ministry’s spokesman Bahram Qassemi told IRNA February 3.
He said the measure comes as a response to America’s ban on visa issuance for the citizens of seven countries, including Iran.
The Freestyle World Cup competition was to be held in Kermanshah, Kermanshah province February 16-17.
This week the US also denied visa to the members of Iran Archery Team who were to partake in a World Cup archery event in Las Vegas February 10.
