Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 5
By Fatih Karimov – Trend:
Iran has agreed to issue visa for the US national wrestling team for participation in the Freestyle World Cup competition, Bahram Qasemi, spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry, said.
Following the US federal judge’s ruling that has suspended President Donald Trump’s travel ban for Iranian visa-holders, the US wrestlers’ visa will be granted, Qasemi wrote on his Telegram account.
Qasemi added that the visa request from the US wrestling team was granted considering the US court ruling and requests from presidents of the Iranian Wrestling Federation and the United World Wrestling.
Earlier, Iran has barred the US wrestlers from entering the country for participation in the competition.
A special committee that had been assigned to deal with the issue has voted to bar the athletes from entering Iran as a response to America’s ban on visa issuance for the citizens of seven countries, including Iran, Qasemi said Feb. 3.
The Freestyle World Cup competition was to be held in Kermanshah, Kermanshah province February 16-17.
