Iran’s Minister of Transport Abbas Akhondi is to be impeached as the Parliament’s presiding board announced it had received a motion from the lawmakers.

The motion was put forth by the Urban Development Commission of the Parliament and signed by 34 MPs, Mehr news agency reported February 14.

According to the law, the minister would have 10 days to appear before the lawmakers to answer their questions.

Among the questions are deadly traffic incidents, such as one on November 25, were a total of 45 people lost their lives and 103 others
were injured in the deadly collision of two passenger trains in Semnan Province.

The MPs have also asked why the ministry has delayed developing international corridors that pass through Iran to the point that
neighboring countries have used the opportunity to develop rival corridors.
