During his visit to Iran's Khudafarin plants, Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev said that the main agenda of his trip to Iran is to evaluate the investment opportunities in agriculture and tourism sector, Mehr news agency reported Feb. 23.

Last December Iran’s parliament has ratified the agreement signed with Azerbaijan for cooperation in construction and operation of the Khudafarin and Giz Galasi hydro power plants on the Araz River and in using energy and water resources.

The agreement was signed during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Tehran on Feb. 23. The Parliament of Azerbaijan ratified the agreement in June.

The agreement proclaims the principles of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and Iran, and equal rights for use of water and energy resources of Khudaferin and Giz Galasi hydro systems.

Meanwhile, Iranian ICT Minister Mahmoud Vaezi had said that the statistics indicate 70 percent growth in Iran-Azerbaijan trade turnover.

Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Iran amounted to $15.77 million in January 2017, as compared to $9.56 million a year before, according to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.
