Under an agreement with the ports and maritime organization of Iran, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) will be in charge of confiscating those vessels that violate the laws in the Persian Gulf.

According to the agreement, the IRGC will hand over the confiscated vessels to the ports and maritime organization of Iran, Tasnim news agency reported.

Last April Iranian patrol boats intercepted the MV Maersk Tigris, a Marshall Islands-flagged cargo vessel, in the Strait of Hormuz forcing it into Iranian territorial waters.

The ports and maritime organization said that a Tehran court had given the order to seize the ship following a legal complaint from an Iranian private company.
