The EU and Iran held a high-level seminar on nuclear cooperation in Brussels on Feb. 28-March 1.

The seminar named “International Nuclear Cooperation: Expectations and Responsibilities” was the result of a joint initiative of the European Commissioner for Energy and Climate Action Miguel Arias Cañete and Iranian Vice-President Ali Akbar Salehi, the European Commission said on its official website.

The seminar was opened by Helga Schmid, secretary-general of the European External Action Service, and Dominique Ristori, director-general of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy.

On the Iranian side, a message was transmitted on behalf of Salehi, who heads the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), which was followed by Iran's opening remarks delivered by Behrouz Kamalvandi, the AEOI deputy head.

Salehi in his message thanked the EU for its effective and constructive role in the conclusion of the historic accord, adding that development of scientific and technical cooperation between Iran and members of the P5+1 has been one of the fruits of the agreement.

In his own address to the conference, Kamalvandi said Tehran's complete commitment to its contractual obligations has not been met with similar dedication on the part of other parties to the agreement, "especially some of them."

Members of the European Parliament, representatives of the European Commission and the European External Action Service, and representatives of the P5+1 countries (China, France, Germany, Russia, the UK and the US) as well as the International Atomic Energy Agency also took part in the event.

“The seminar allowed for fruitful exchanges between a high level delegation from Iran, including prominent parliamentarians, as well as senior officials from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with participants from several European Commission services, the External Action Service, as well as representatives from third countries and the International Atomic Energy Agency,” reads a statement released following the event.
