Deputy Commander of Sistan-o Balouchestan Border Guards IRGC General Mohammad Mollashahi said here Wednesday one ton and 350 kilograms of opium was seized from smugglers in Saravan regionˈs Sirkan district, IRNA reported.

He said that the smugglers intended to enter the large consignment of opium through a tough mountainous area, when they were identified at the beginning of the forbidden border region zone.

The smugglers began shooting at the border guard officers after they found out that they were spotted, said Brigadier General Mollashahi.

'Facing the heavy operation of the Iranian armed forces the smugglers fled into the depth of Pakistan's soil, leaving behind the large, 1,350 kilogram of opium, and some ammunition,' he said.

He meanwhile informed that the armed bandits intended to enter an IRGC border post, but they were faced with fierce defense of the brave Iranian border guards, suffered heavy loss of life, and fled to the other side of the border.
