Iranian Interior Minister's deputy for social affairs, Morteza Mirbagheri said that four suspects in the recent acid attacks case have been arrested, the Islamic Republic's official IRNA news agency reported Oct. 20.

Iranian media outlets reported that in recent weeks at least 4 women became victims of acid attacks by unknown motorcyclists.

The latest incident happened on the night of Oct. 15 when a young woman was assaulted by unknown people on motorcycles, who threw acid at her while she was in her car.

Mirbagheri went on to note that the acid attacks issue was seriously pursued by the interior ministry.

"Now there are no security concerns in Isfahan," the deputy minister said.

In recent weeks, some claims in social networks said the reason for acid attacks were the women, who violated the Islamic dress code in the city.

Mohammad Taghi Rahbar, a senior cleric in Isfahan who leads Friday prayer condemned the attacks saying such an act is illegal and is not permitted in Islam.

"Even if a woman goes out into the street in the worst veil, no one has the right to do such a thing," he said.
