Around 120,000 children in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan province are deprived of the opportunity to get education, Alireza Nakhaei, head of the Education Department of Iran's Ministry of Education for Sistan and Baluchestan province said.

He added that 37,000 of them are the children aged 6-9 years, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on Jan.7.

"The main reason is the long distance between the villages of the province," Nakhaei said.

He said that some 4,846 educational institutions operating in the province are sufficient taking into account the population size there.

"However, there are around 6,000 villages the distance between which is quite long," Nakhaei said. "Sometimes, children have to walk 15 kilometers to get to school."
