Reports from the western provinces of Khuzestan, Ilam, Lorestan, Kurdistan, West and East Azerbaijan, and Kermanshah indicate that life has become difficult after heavy dust storm hit these areas, IRIB news agency reported on Feb. 9.

An official statement said that all schools and universities were called off across Khuzestan.

West Azerbaijan's Public Relations of Education office announced that heavy dust storm forced closure on schools in most parts of the province, too.

The same goes with Ilam, where flights have also been cancelled.

Officials of the city of Kermanshah said that the current dust will leave the city late Feb. 9 but that a new wave will hit the area two days later.

Lorestan Environment Protection Organization also announced that the amount of dust in the air was 6 times the healthy limit and added that the province has had 120 days of polluted air this year (starting Mar. 21) due to dust particles.

Officials across the areas mentioned have asked youngsters, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems to stay home as much as they can for as long as dust continues to keep the air polluted.
