An Iranian judiciary official in the country’s western Ravansar city, Kermanshah province succumbed to his injuries in hospital after he was attacked by a gunman, Iranian ISNA news agency reported Feb. 10.

An Iranian judiciary official in the country's western Ravansar city, Kermanshah province succumbed to his injuries in hospital after he was attacked by a gunman, Iranian ISNA news agency reported Feb. 10.

Salim Ghanbari, who was head of Ravansar judiciary was attacked early morning by a gunman in front of his house, when he was going to work.

The police arrived at the scene and managed to injury the gunman, who was then arrested. There wasn't immediate information available on his identity and motives.

Ghanbari was serving in the judiciary of Ravansar for the last seven years. The city's population are mainly Kurdish Sunni people.

Earlier in an interview with the country's Mehr news agency Ghanbari praized the regional officials for providing security in the region.

He also said that the region's geographical situation prepares grounds for presence of terrorist opposition groups, including Kurdish PJAK militants.
