Iran has unveiled a new long-range ground-to-ground cruise missile system with high accuracy in a ceremony attended by senior military officials.

The new missile dubbed "Soumar" differs from previous home-made missiles by its range and precision, Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan said.

"The ground-based cruise missile is a new product that is different from the previous versions also by its control systems and design," Dehghan added.

Dehghan further said that Soumar has been designed and built by experts of the defense ministry's aerospace industries organization.

"This is one of the glorious achievements that will have a decisive effect on the promotion of the defensive capabilities of the Islamic Republic," the minister said, Iran's official IRIB news agency reported March 8.

Dehghan also announced the mass delivery of Qadr and Qiyam long-range ballistic missiles to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)'s Aerospace Force.

"These missiles benefit radar-evading features and are capable of destroying various types of targets," the minister said.

Iranian media outlets report that Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.

Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes.
