German tourists rescued from mountain in northern Iran

Director of the Iranian Red Crescent Society Nasser Charkhsaz announced that 17 German tourists and their 3 local tour guides who had gone missing in the mountains of the northern province of Mazandaran have been found and rescued.

Director of the Iranian Red Crescent Society Nasser Charkhsaz announced that 17 German tourists and their 3 local tour guides who had gone missing in the mountains of the northern province of Mazandaran have been found and rescued.

He said that the tourists were found at 23:30 local time (GMT +4:30 hours) on March 9, Mehr news agency reported March 10.

Jamshid Nikzad, director of the Red Crescent Society of the northern Iranian city of Amol , Mazandaran Province in Iran said that rescue teams from the organization along with three specialist mountain relief teams had been dispatched to the Rineh heights where the tourists disappeared.

He added that the tourists were 50 to 70 years of age and were led by three local tour guides to the Garna area of Larijan County to ascend Damavand Mountain.

Their path was blocked because of heavy snow and a blizzard in areas up from the Rineh Industrial Town, he said.
