In the last day of the Iranian Army's Beit-ul-Moqaddas 27 military exercises, the Ground Force unveiled a newly made sniper rifle.

Infantry, mechanized units, artillery, Special Forces, and the Air Force, attended the day's drills, Fars news agency reported May 25.

Army Commander Ahmad Reza Pourdastan speaking on the sidelines of the drill said that backed by helicopters and artillery fire, the armed and mechanized units carried out a defensive that was conducted by the Air Force.

The newly launched rifle named BMJ2 is a 7.62 mm caliber weapon and was used during the drills. It enjoys an engagement range of 800 meters and is able to destroy targets of human and light equipment.

The Islamic Republic of Iran may hold joint drills with other countries, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said as the drills were underway.

The Iranian Army ground force launched the first leg of the major drill in the western province of Kermanshah on May 21 and continue in two other regions across the country as well.

The army has test-fired a number of its domestically produced rockets in the missile drill including two N10 and N6 Nazeat missiles as well as Fajr missile.

Iranian media outlets report that Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.

Tehran established an arms development program during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s to counter the weapons embargo imposed on it by the U.S. and its Western allies.
