Iranian court has sentenced right-wing lawmaker Ahmad Tavakoli to six months in prison.

"The court sentenced me to 6 months in prison, in which they considered my status, and the verdict is suspended for two years," Tavakoli said, Iran's IRIB news agency reported June 6.

He said the verdict has not yet been issued and he only accessed the content of it.

He went on to say the verdict was given over the publication of comments from people on his website Alef.

He had been accused of running propaganda against the Islamic Republic, publishing untruth, and agitating the public mind.

Tavakoli said he does not consider the verdict to be compatible with the law, adding he will protest the verdict.

The senior MP had been sued by a number of officials from the administration of former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
