Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called on the people to strengthen fight against narcotics.

In a message on the occasion of June 26, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Rouhani said due to being the neighbor of a country, which is the main source of cultivation and production of narcotics, Iran has always been exposed to the highest rates of damages and losses to its people.

Referring to the motto of "Let's Develop Our Lives - Our Communities - Our Identities - Without Drugs", as the theme of this year's International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Rouhani said that more than 85 percent of activities to fight against drugs is conducted by NGOs in Iran.

He recommended the global community to take into consideration the livelihood of people in main narcotics-producing countries, share experience and boost cooperation to prevent from the influx of illegal money into international financial systems, as the effective measures to materialize goals of fight against narcotics.

Head of Iran's Drugs Police Ali Moayedi said June 24 that the Iranian police seized some 135 metric tons of illegal drugs in the past three months.

In the meantime 92,000 people have been arrested across the country on drugs-related charges, he added.

There, 80,000 cases have been filed and 650 drugs bands have been disbanded, he said.

The captured amount of drugs shows 25 percent growth, according to Moayedi.

Ten dealers were killed, 25 wounded, and 525 anti-smuggle battles carried out mostly in the eastern country, he said, adding that the anti-drug operations in eastern Iran grew by 41 percent in the mentioned period.

He further said addiction among Iranian women is on the rise.
