An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit the city of Quchan in Iran's North Khorasan Province, Tabnak.ir news website reported Oct. 13 citing Hossein Azimi, head of the province's crisis management department.
The North Khorasan Province is located in north-eastern Iran.
Azimi said the earthquake was recorded at around 07:01 local time (UTC/GMT +3:30 hours) on Oct. 13 in Quchan, which is located near the border with Turkmenistan.
He added that the officers of the crisis management department have been dispatched to the province's villages, where they are calculating the damage inflicted by the earthquake.
