Iranian warships will sail to Baku, capital of Azerbaijan.
Mehr quoted Iranian Squadron Commander Ahmad Reza Bakeri as saying Oct. 19 that three warships from the Iranian city of Bandar Anzali departed for Russia's Astrakhan on Oct. 18.
"The visit was planned in advance," he said. "The visit, which is to last 14 days, involves the 'Damavand' destroyer, the 'Jushan' and 'Peykan' missile boats, and 200 soldiers."
Bakeri said that after visiting Astrakhan, the squadron will make a friendly visit to Baku and then return to Iran after two weeks.
He said the visit is aimed to expand the relations to ensure security in the Caspian Sea and the development of bilateral relations.
"Organization of such visits is important in terms of growth of neighborly relations among the Caspian littoral states, as well as for ensuring safety and for the environment of the Caspian Sea," he added.
