Iran and Afghanistan will boost mutual cooperation in the field of the information and communications technology (ICT), Iran's ICT minister, Mahmoud Vaezi said.

Vaezi made the remarks on the sidelines of a meeting with his visiting Afghan counterpart Abdul Razaq Vahidi in Tehran, Dec. 7, the Iranian official IRNA news agency reported.

The sides will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding the ICT cooperation, Vaezi said.

The Iranian minister further said that Tehran and Kabul will establish five specialized committees for cooperation in the areas of E-government, research and development, infrastructure and network development, ICT regulation and post.

Emphasizing Iran's software and hardware capabilities, Vaezi said that the Afghan minister is scheduled to hold meetings with Iranian private companies in order to become familiar with the companies' potentialities in software and hardware fields.

The Iranian ICT minister also said that Iran and Afghanistan agreed to cooperate in the area of Persian applications and software.

Vahidi, for his turn, said Kabul seeks Iran's help and support to reconstruct the war-stricken country.

The Afghan minister added that Tehran and Kabul should take further steps to increase their cooperation in the field of the ICT.

Earlier this year, Iran and Afghanistan signed two cooperation agreements as part of efforts to boost the relations between the two neighboring countries.

In a ceremony in April, attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, high-ranking officials from the two countries singed the documents.
