Iran destroyed 26 international drugs dealing bands over the past Iranian calendar year (ended March 19), according to Sistan-Baluchestan Police Chief Hossein Rahimi.
The number of the arrested drug dealers in the meantime rose by 11 percent, he told a press conference, Fars news agency reported June 14.
He added that in the first three months of the current Iranian year, the police discovered 30 tons of drugs, indicating a 40-percent growth compared to the same period last year.
The Islamic Republic has frequently called itself a leading force in fighting the drugs dealers.
The country is neighboring with Afghanistan and Pakistan - the sources of the drugs smuggling that is bound to Europe.
Tehran blames international bodies for not providing sufficient support for its fight on drugs.
