After Washington Post correspondent Jason Rezaian sued Iran for his arrest, Tehran says it is going to retaliate by suing the U.S. for having used him as spy.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament, said Iran will “file a similar suit against the US”, ICANA news agency reported October 7.

Shortly after released by Iran and returned to the US, Rezaian filed a suit accusing Iran of torturing him physically and psychologically.

He has also said the only reason for his arrest was for Iran to pressurize the US during the nuclear talks.

Tehran released Rezaian in January. Earlier in Nov 2015 Rezaian was sentenced to an unspecified prison term in connection with espionage allegations after a court behind the closed doors.

Iranian-American Rezaian was detained with his wife, Yeganeh Salehi, in July 2014. His spouse was later released.
