An Iranian fleet of warships under the name “Peace and Friendship” arrived at Russia’s Makhachkala, Mehr news agency reported March 10.
The Iranian flotilla was warmly welcomed by Russian officials.
The flotilla is the third Iranian naval fleet to visit Russia. Ahmad Reza Baqeri, a navy official, recently said the fleet’s voyage will take a week and it will stay at Makhachkala for three days.
He added the voyage is taking place upon invitation by Russian navy officials.
According to Baqeri, the flotilla includes Damavand destroyer and Derafsh missile boat.
Russia has so far dispatched naval fleets to Iran four times, starting in 2007.
