![]() French President Nicolas Sarkozy called on the international community to support the Middle East peace conference in Paris, the Turkish news agency Anatolia reported today. Sarkozy discussed his proposal with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Paris last week. The French president proposes convening a peace conference with the participation of Israel, the Palestinian Autonomy and Syria, the source reported. Sarkozy proposed inviting King Abdullah II of Jordan, the Egyptian and Lebonese presidents, and the Middle East quartet chairs (U.S., EC, Russia, U.N.) as mediators and observers. Sarkozy also invited Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and Syrian President Bashar Assad, also the Arab leaders rejected their French counterpart's proposal, the source reports. Russia also calls on holding a Middle East peace conference. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov proposes holding the conference immediately after the Palestinians and Israelis resume the peace process which stalled two years ago.
