About 2,000 Jordanians demonstrated on Monday in protest at the Israeli attack on the Freedom Flotilla in the Mediterranean and called on the government to sever ties with the Jewish states, DPA reported.
The demonstration started at the capital's Trades Unions headquarters and headed to the prime minister's office as heavy security precautions were taken around the Israeli embassy to prevent protesters from going there.
Protestors burnt an Israeli flag, chanted slogans praising Turkey's stand and against the Egyptian regime accusing it of supporting Israel's siege of the Gaza Strip.
Leaders of the demonstration were demanding a meeting with Prime Minister Samir Rifai to press for their demands.
At least 24 Jordanians were aboard the Gaza flotilla, some of them prominent unionists and politicians.
Similar demonstrations were also reported in other major Jordanian cities.
