Red Cross to end humanitarian aid in North Caucasus

( RIA Novosti ) - The International Committee of the Red Cross said on Wednesday it is to end humanitarian aid to Russia's North Caucasus due to an improvement in the situation in the region.

The final North Caucasus humanitarian aid project is to take place between October 24 and November 20, and will concentrate on the Chechen Republic, which has seen two wars against federal Russian troops since 1994.

This year the Red Cross has allocated a total of $23 million for Russia, of which $18.5 was for the North Caucasus.

The International Committee of the Red Cross is a Geneva-based private humanitarian institution dedicated to protecting the life and dignity of the victims of international and internal armed conflicts.
