A 31-year-old pregnant woman died in Georgia from type-A influenza. According to the Kutaisi Center for Disease Control, the woman died this morning.

She arrived to the hospital on Jan. 9 and was tested for the H1N1 virus, which has not yet been confirmed in laboratory conditions. However, the woman died from complications of type-A influenza.

The cause of the woman's death is being investigated. A special examination will be held. She is the first flu victim in Georgia this year.

The Georgian Health Ministry calls on the Georgian people, but primarily pregnant women, to appeal to a doctor immediately if they have high fever for three days.

Today, the ministry's representatives will hold another meeting with doctors from the regions on the prevention of the spread of type-A influenza.

The A/H1N1 influenza virus was discovered in late March 2009 in Mexico, the United States and Canada, where the first cases were reported with fatal consequences. Already in April of the same year, the WHO declared a pandemic of the "swine flu."

The WHO announced the introduction of the highest pandemic threat level in connection with the rapid spread of A/H1N1 on June 11, 2009 for the first time in 40 years.

According to the WHO, more than 18,500 cases of H1N1 infection worldwide have been recorded. The infected peoples were recorded in more than 200 countries.
