Three people died and over 15 were injured Tuesday when about 100 vehicles crashed into each other in thick fog and slippery conditions in southern Sweden, police said, reported dpa.
The pile-up involved about 50 cars and as many trucks on a bridge on the E4 highway, north-east of the city of Helsingborg.
At least one emergency service truck that was dispatched to the scene was also involved in the collision, but none of the emergency service personnel was hurt.
Vehicles in both north- and southbound lanes were involved in the crash. The accident covered a 2-kilometre-long stretch and jack-knifed trucks blocked the road.
"It was an enormous crash," Jones Hellsten of the emergency services said.
"Visibility was extremely poor, the fog came and went," motorist Kristina Carlbaum, who survived unscathed, told TV4 news.
