Three people were injured as a result of the earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale that jolted East Azerbaijan Province today, Iranian state television reported.
Five aftershocks occurred, IRNA reported.

Earlier FARS news agency quoted head of East Azerbaijan Province's Crisis Management Headquarters, Khalil Sa'ee as saying that no one died or injured as a result of the earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale that jolted East Azerbaijan Province today.

According to the agency, at the same time, East Azerbaijan Province Governor Alireza Beighi also said that rescue groups have been sent to the scene. He also earlier mentioned that the earthquake left no dead or injured.

Earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted East Azerbaijan Province near Tabriz today, Iranian national television reported.

The earthquake took place at 15:09 local time.

The earthquake was mainly felt in Tasuj.

The earthquake was also felt in Tabriz, Marand, Azarshahr and Bonab.

It should be noted that 2.5 million people live in the quake-hit area.

Two earthquakes happened during last two weeks in Iran's southern regions, Bushehr and Sistan-Baluchestan provinces, which left about 40 dead.

An earthquake measuring 6.2 also occurred in the province of East Azerbaijan on Aug. 11, 2012. As a result, 300 people were killed and 2500 were injured. Around 110 of 538 villages of the province were completely or partially destroyed. Some 5000 buildings were damaged.
