At least 36 people died when a bus plunged off a highway late Sunday in southern Italy, the Ansa news agency reported, citing fire department officials, dpa reported.
Italian media reported that several children were among the 11 seriously injured passengers.
The accident occurred west of Naples between Monteforte Irpino and Baiano.
Initial reports were that the bus failed to slow down when approaching slower traffic from behind, rammed several cars and fell 30 metres after leaving the pavement. Ansa reported suspicions of a brake failure.
