Theft is one of the most frequent crimes in Iran, the chief of Iran's Law Enforcement Forces, General Ismail Ahmadi-Moghaddam told journalists on Jan. 15, ISNA news agency reported.
He said 2000 theft offences take place in the country each day.
Ismail Ahmadi-Moghaddam stressed that the police force makes every effort to fight this problem.
He said that over nine months of the Iranian calendar (year starts on March 21), theft offences increased by 26 percent as compared to the previous year. Ismail Ahmadi-Moghaddam said this is the result of economic deterioration faced by the population.
