A passenger aircraft crashed in Tehransar residential area near Tehran's Mehrabad airport, killing at least 45 people, Tasnim News reported on August 10.

A total number of 48 people were onboard the flight number 5915, out of which 3 were thrown out of the aircraft before crash. They have been taken to the hospital, and two of them are reportedly in critical condition. The other 45 people aboard the plane all died at the scene.

"There were 8 crew members and 40 passengers on board, including three infants, and three children below the age of 12," Mohammad Ali Ilkhani, Director of Iran's Airports Company, subsidiary of Iran's Road and Urban ministry, said.

Six other people were also injured and taken to the hospital, as the plane crashed in a residential area.

The aircraft, owned by Sepahan airline, was flying to Tabas town. While taking off, an ignition occurred in one of the aircraft's engines.

The Iran-140 (AN-140) aircraft took off at 9:18 from the Mehrabad airport and crashed at 9:45.

Flight recorders were found to investigate the incident.
