Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu congratulated Uzbekistan on successfully conducting parliamentary elections Sunday.
Earlier the OIC observer mission arrived in Uzbekistan upon invitation from the government.
The OIC delegation also conveyed its congratulations and support to Uzbek officials.
Ihsanoglu is closely observing efforts to strengthen the country's democracy, he said.
According to preliminary data, 15 million voters participated in the elections.
The elections were said to have been fair by observers.
Over 270 representatives from 36 countries and four international organizations observed the elections, including the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, CIS Executive Committee, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and OIC.
