The next meeting between the Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents, Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan will take place in Chisinau on Oct. 8, the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair, Yuriy Merzlyakov told journalists in Baku on Oct. 6.
"We have left Yerevan for Baku with a coordinated proposal. The Azerbaijani President has also agreed on it," Merzlyakov said.
The Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents, Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan will meet in Chisinau as part of the summit of the CIS countries' heads.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
On Oct. 5, the Azerbaijani President positively assessed the Moscow meeting and hoped for positive dynamics in Chisinau, the Russian Co-Chair said.
