The Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh will hold an event dedicated to military and patriotic themes.
"The event entitled "This is our homeland" will be held at the University of the Caucasus on Oct. 29," Head of the Coordinating Council of the Public Association "The Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan", Mehdi Abdullayev said to Trend on Oct. 26.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Abdullayev said the event to be held on the day of the occupation of the Zangilan region aims once again to express the position of the community, as well as the Azerbaijani government on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
"We consider very important to hold such events with the participation of young people receiving education in various universities. Our goal is to further enhance military-patriotic spirit of our youth," said the head of the council.
