Azerbaijani ombudsman makes statement on 18th anniversary of Khojali genocide

Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova made a statement regarding 18th anniversary of the Khojali genocide.

The statement demands making criminally responsible the Armenian terrorists and their supporters who have committed Khojali genocide.

"The efforts of international organizations aimed at addressing certain conflict should be in full compliance with the norms and principles of the international law, without the policy of double standards. Giving up the policy of occupation, territorial claims, Armenia must comply with the provisions of the documents adopted in connection with the conflict, the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan must be restored, the Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced people should return to their native lands, the prisoners and hostages must be released, Armenia must be sanctioned by the competent international organizations," said the statement.

Armenian troops committed genocide in Khojali on Feb. 26, 1992. The tragedy began early morning and over 613 unarmed Azerbaijani citizens were killed. Among them were 106 women and 83 children. About 1,000 people were left disabled by shots and eight families were fully destroyed. More than 25 children lost their parents, more than 1,200 people were taken prisoners and around 150 people went missing.
