Azerbaijani ruling party: OSCE Minsk Group should not be limited to statements

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 1 /Trend, T.Hajiyev/

To carry out its mission, the OSCE Minsk Group should not be limited only to statements, deputy chairman, executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Ali Ahmedov, told journalists.
"If the statements are not implemented in time, do not lead to resolution of the conflict, they have no meaning. Moreover, if these statements are repeated over the years. A view has formed in Azerbaijani society that the co-chairs are more like the tourists," said Ahmedov.

NAP official said Azerbaijan is awaiting a fair solution to the conflict from the co-chairs and all the structures involved in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
"Whether it is fact-finding commission or other commission, the main thing for us is that the steps would be taken and serious efforts would be made for a fair settlement of the conflict. The report submitted by the commission contains the relevant objectivity of moments. And there are moments that do not reflect the position of Azerbaijan and the general parameters of the process," said Ahmedov.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
