Baku says Armenian president deceives int'l organizations

Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 23 / Trend I.Isabalayeva /

Baku accuses Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan of deceiving international organizations.

"Sargsyan's recent statement, which urged that Nagorno-Karabakh will never be part of Azerbaijan, testifies he deceives the international community, UN and OSCE," Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Social and Political Department Chief Ali Hasanov told journalists today.

Sargsyan made this statement in his interview with the Russian television channel.
"Unfortunately, some international organizations and world decision makers still turn blind eye to these statements by people such as Sargsyan," Hasanov underscored. "However, their time is reaching the end."

Hasanov said Azerbaijan has repeatedly stated that it believes in a peace mission of international organizations and in elimination of Nagorno-Karabakh problem and Armenia's territorial claims against other states by international organizations.
Azerbaijan hopes the Nagorno-Karabakh problem will be resolved with a peaceful means, he added.

"However, Azerbaijan will have to seek other ways to liberate its lands if the international community indicates a weakness before Armenia and turns blind eye to this kind of statements," Hasanov said.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
