Some forces' focusing on the issues of democracy in the process of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement is only a pretext. All of these are ideas sounded to exert pressure upon Azerbaijan and to prevent the country from its independent policy, vice speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Bahar Muradova said in an interview with the website of ruling New Azerbaijan Party.
Muradova said a limited group inside Azerbaijan, following own goals, was trying to use such ideas. She said that the conflict was caused by the Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan. This aggression caused huge damage to Azerbaijan and the fact of occupation impedes Azerbaijan's development, Muradova said.
"As a result of occupation of our lands by Armenia, a large territory became unsettled. The infrastructure was destroyed and the people were deprived of the right to live in their homeland. The occupation of territories prevents our country to achieve more rapid socio-economic development. This factor has serious impact on the democratic development as well. Therefore those, who focus attention on the factor of democracy in the conflict settlement, have to assess the reality correctly," Muradova said.
Muradova said if they were concerned about the democratic processes, it has to be done with Armenia, because shooting at the parliament, killing of peaceful people during the protest actions took place in this country. "We have witnessed the steps taken against the participants of protest actions in the European countries, in the USA recently. They used water cannon, cavalry and dogs to crack down the protesters. It is wrong approach to use the factor of democracy to play into the Armenians' hands and to sound such ideas for own political ambitions. Those, who sound such ideas, are the forces against Azerbaijan. All legal states, within the law, take steps against the illegal actions," Muradova stated.
