Azerbaijani ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova sent a statement in connection with the anniversary of Khojaly genocide to the international organizations. The statement requires the criminalization of Armenian terrorists who committed Khojaly genocide and their supporters, the Ombudsman's Office told Trend today.

At present, Khojaly tragedy is being discussed at the international level and the parliaments of several countries. The leading international organizations recognize Armenia as the country-aggressor. The requirement is made to liberate the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, to restore its territorial integrity, the statement said.

International organizations, abandoning the double standards, must intensify efforts aimed at resolving the conflict in accordance with the norms and principles of international law. The competent international organizations must recognize this tragedy as a genocide. The sanctions must be imposed against Armenia, the statement said.

"The country-aggressor must abandon its territorial claims and fulfill the provisions of the adopted international documents," the statement said. "The territorial integrity of Azerbaijan must be restored. Azerbaijani captives and hostages must be released. Refugees and internally displaced persons must return home."
