The rally on the 20th anniversary of Khojaly genocide has been organized by representatives of Azerbaijani community living in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Waterloo and studying here Azerbaijani students in front of Canada's legislative organ headquarters in Ottawa on Friday, the embassy of Azerbaijan in Canada told Trend.
The rally was directed against Armenia's ethnic cleansing and aggressive policy.
During the rally slogans against the crimes committed by Armenian nationalists on 25-26 February 1992, and the occupation policy that has continued since 1988 were heard, leaflets with the information about the Khojaly genocide were distributed. Protesters demanded to stop this policy of Armenia, called Canadian MPs to assess the issue and put pressure on Armenia.
Also protesters held a picket in front of Armenian Embassy in Canada.
Armenian military forces committed genocide in Khojaly on Feb. 26, 1992. Some 613 people were killed, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old men. A total of 1,000 civilians were disabled during the genocide. Eight families were annihilated, 130 children lost one parent, and 25 lost both. Additionally, 1,275 peaceful residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 remains unknown.
