A petition has been posted at the White House's website to recognize the Khojaly genocide.
The petition placed in the "We the People" section on the White House's official website, envisages the collection of signatures for the Khojaly genocide victims commemoration and the U.S President's statement on the eve of the 21st anniversary of the tragedy.
Starting from January 25, it was announced about launching of the voting within "We - the people" campaign to collect electronic signatures.
The Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Diaspora has submitted a Khojaly resident's silent appeal. This woman urges people to sign a petition to recognize the Khojaly genocide, posted on the White House's website.
On Feb. 25-26 February, 1992, Armenian occupation forces together with the 366th infantry regiment of Soviet troops stationed in Khankendi (earlier Stepanakert) fired on the Azerbaijani town of Khojali that had been under siege for months.
Within one night the town was razed to the ground. Some 613 people were killed including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old men.
A total of 1000 civilians were injured during the genocide. Eight families were killed, 130 children lost one parent and 25 lost both.
Additionally, 1275 innocent residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 remains unknown.
