A delegation consisting of the Director of the Center for Strategic Studies (CSS) under the President of Azerbaijan Farhad Mammadov, the Deputy Director of the Center Gulshan Pashayeva, MP Asim Mollazadeh, the head of the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elman Abdullayev, leading researchers of the Foreign Policy Issues Analysis Department of the Foreign Minister Kamal Makili-Aliyev and Heydar Mirzayev, and others, took part in a 'round table' at the Harriman Institute of Columbia University, the CSS reported on Friday.

At the event, Elman Abdullayev stressed Azerbaijan's potential in the development of the South Caucasus and also spoke about the ongoing Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territory. In addition, he noted that Armenia is in gross violation of international law and is persuing a policy of occupation; despite this, the international community is not properly responding to what is going on.

According to Abdullayev, the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is being delayed due to the indifferent attitude of the international community on the issue.

US-Azerbaijan relations and the processes occurring in the region were the main topics discussed at the event.

Other representatives of Azerbaijan's delegation held a seminar called 'Azerbaijan as an economic energy transportation nexus in the region' at Stratfor Strategic Forecasting Inc.

Participants discussed the prospects of scientific cooperation between the CSS and Stratfor. A CSS department head Vusal Gasymly made a speech titled 'Azerbaijan is a transport and logistics hub in the Center of Eurasia. CSS expert Gulmira Rzayeva spoke about 'Connecting the Caspian to the European downstream market. Zaur Shiriyev, a leading researcher spoke on 'Geopolitical views of Azerbaijan' and researcher Shakhmar Hajiyev lectured on 'America's Need for a Stronger Partnership with Azerbaijan'.

Stratfor and the SRC also discussed cooperation prospects.

The delegation consists of 15 people and is in the United States on an official visit from April 29 to May 8.

During the visit, there are plans to hold 20 conferences, meetings and lectures at influential U.S. think tanks and universities.
