Armenia's current leadership does not want peace, chairman of the "Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno-Karabakh region" Public Union Bayram Safarov told Trend today.

"Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan knows that after several meetings are held between the two communities, there will be no need for his participation in the negotiations between Azerbaijanis and Armenians. Armenians will agree to live in Azerbaijan under a special status," Bayramov added.

"We are ready to meet with all Armenians and every reasonable person respecting Azerbaijan," Bayramov stressed.

"We are not against living together with the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh," he added.

"They must respect the laws and the constitution of Azerbaijan and must take Azerbaijani citizenship," he said. "In this case, they will be assigned the highest status."

"For conflict settlement, the social development of Nagorno-Karabakh will be supported," he added.

"The Armenians still have a chance to meet as current Azerbaijan is not that one 20 years ago," he added. "Today we have a strong army that can liberate the occupied territories."

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
