Last night and earlier today, the Armenian Armed Forces opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani Armed Forces located in the village of Alibeyli of Tovuz region and at nameless heights of Tovuz and Gazakh regions from the positions in the village of Paravakar, Mosesgerh and Aygedzor of Armenia's Berd region, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Armenian Armed Forces opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani Armed Forces located in the village of Gizilhajili and at nameless heights of Gazakh region from the positions located in the villages of Vazashen and Berkaber of Ijevan region
In addition, Azerbaijani Armed Forces were fired from the positions near the occupied villages of Gizil Oba, Chayli of Tartar region, Tapgaragoyunlu of Goranboy region, , Garakhanbayli, Ashagy Seyidahmadli, Horadiz and Ashagy Abdulrahmanli of Fizuli region, Kuropatkino of Khojavend region, Shikhlar of Aghdam region and from the positions located at nameless heights of Cabrayil region.
The shooting was countered by return fire.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
