Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 15 / Trend /
Aggressive separatism, national and ethnic conflicts, steps aimed at fierce change in the internationally recognised borders of Azerbaijan as well as violation of its territorial integrity must be assessed as a threat which represents a serious danger, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said at a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Council of Turkic-Speaking States on Thursday.
According to him, the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which arose as a result of Armenia's military aggression that has been continuing for more than 20 years and unfounded territorial claims, is a clear example of the obstacles to regional cooperation.
As a result of the policy of ethnic cleansing pursued by Armenia, 20 per cent of Azerbaijani territory is under occupation and more than one million Azerbaijanis have become refugees and internally displaced persons, Mammadyarov said.
"Azerbaijan advocates for the withdrawal of Armenian forces from its territories and implementation of the UN resolutions," the head of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan said.
Mammadyarov also thanked all the countries supporting Azerbaijan's position in this conflict.
