On Saturday, the Ombudsman of Moldova, Aurelia Grigoriu held a meeting in Baku with representatives of Azerbaijani NGOs and the media outlets.

Opening the event, the Chairman of the Centre of Cooperation of Azerbaijanis and other Turkic peoples, Ilham Ismayilov thanked the Moldovan Ombudsman.

Azerbaijani Ombudsman, Elmira Suleymanova said Azerbaijan's main problem is the occupation of its territories by Armenia. Suleymanova added that this conflict remains unresolved because of Armenia's disrespect to the resolutions of international organizations and non-compliance with them. But the Azerbaijani Ombudsman noted that the number of Azerbaijan's supporters in this issue is growing.

"There were also ombudsmen among those who supported us, but Aurelia Grigoriu, raised this issue in the Armenian Parliament, basing on the facts and in full accordance with the truth. But the Armenians, unable to say anything, again demonstrated their insidious policy to the entire world and showed aggression against a representative of another country," Suleymanova said.

According to her, Grigoriu demonstrated a great courage and did what should be done by an ombudsman.

"We appreciate Aurelia Grigoriu and express her gratitude," Suleymanova said.

Aurelia Grigoriu, thanking the government of Azerbaijan, said that the work on settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be activated, because justice is on the side of Azerbaijan.

She also noted that the UN Security Council held unfair position in a number of cases. Grigoriu proposed Azerbaijan to make the initiative on fundamentally changing the structure and mechanisms of the United Nations.

"Armenia refuses to comply with UN Security Council's resolutions on the liberation of the occupied lands of Azerbaijan, that is why I call on Azerbaijan to make an initiative on changing the mechanisms of the UN," Grigoriu said.

Then Azerbaijan National NGO Forum and other NGOs awarded Grigoriu a number of prizes for the protection of human rights, especially the rights of the Azerbaijani people. Grigoriu was awarded with Tarixi İmza (Historical signature) award. It was awarded for the first time.
